// These carnivorous plant are native to a very small area in North and South Carolina, found growing in nutrient deficient bogs & swamps. In order to supplement their nutrient intake, they have evolved their leaves to capture live insects by luring them into fleshy coloured traps that spring shut when activated by movement. Nice!

Flytraps tend to prefer bright light (with some direct sun) and, as these plants naturally grow in damp environments they must be kept moist at all times. We find it easier to keep these on a saucer of water.

These plants tend to be sensitive to tap water and you may see some of the traps start to blacken and fall off. This is common and leaves will grow anew. Rain or distilled water is recommended or you can try leaving your tap water out overnight to allow some of the elements to evaporate.

These plants have a period of dormancy in winter where leaves will die back and regrow in spring.
